Each year in late Spring, Rocky Ridge Neighbors are proud to join hundreds of volunteers in the citywide Streetscape Planting Day, the annual beautification project led by Youngstown Cityscape.

In the post-pandemic time of 2023, Rocky Ridge Neighbors got to work making Mahoning Avenue as cheery as Streetscape’s bright yellow T-shirts. That year’s theme was “Under Construction” to reflect the street enhancements in the central downtown area.

Armed with flowers provided by the city, our volunteers happily fill in the various decorative planters located along the Mahoning Avenue corridor and around Rocky Ridge. The concrete planters were donated by our Rocky Ridge Neighborhood Association to help bring more summer color and cheer to the facades of cooperating businesses and key public places. Thanks go out to all who pitch in, especially the dedicated folks who make sure flowers and planters are ready to go prior to planting day.

It’s also an opportunity to get some clean-up done in Rocky Ridge Gardens.

Participation in Streetscape is a great chance to not only beautify the neighborhood…

…but spend time with fellow neighbors!
